Dear Peter
Draft Disability Equality Scheme 2006 Consultation.
Ipswich Borough is committed to promoting equality of opportunity and eliminating all forms of discrimination and our vision is to deliver quality services for the people of Ipswich that are also fair, accessible and easy to use.
The Disability Discrimination Act places a duty upon public authorities to develop Disability Equality Schemes. These are to show how Councils intend to: Promote equality of opportunity between disabled persons and others Eliminate unlawful discrimination Eliminate harassment of disabled persons related to their disabilities Promote positive attitudes to disable persons Encourage participation of disabled persons in public life Take steps to take account of disabled persons disabilities even if it means treating disabled people more fairly.
We are drawing up a Disability Equality Scheme to help make sure that Ipswich Borough Council takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the needs of disabled people are meet and that people with disabilities are not disadvantaged when using our services.
